This course centers around live patient care and mentored surgical experiences. For the student this means real patients, real surgery and real education. This curriculum rewards hard work and supports students with high levels of personal attention. Small classes ensure plenty of interaction with our faculty.
Our graduates place implants successfully in their own practices.

Course Structure
The Alabama Implant Education course is divided into two segments: the Didactic Portion and the Clinical Portion.
The Didactic Portion is usually offered in large metropolitan areas that are easy to access including Atlanta, Chicago, and Houston.
The Clinical Portion includes a mentored clinical session, and is held in Birmingham, Alabama. Dentists must be licensed in the United States and have professional insurance coverage to participate in clinical exercises.
Session 1
Session 1 classes are held Thursday through Saturday.
There are some hands-on exercises, such as implant placement and suturing, but most of your time is spent in lecture, planning and discussing cases, and establishing foundations of implant care. Lectures focus on the surgical aspect of implant dentistry.
Session 2
Session 2 also runs Thursday through Saturday.
On Thursday, delegates spend the entire day in surgery. Typically, we do 12 surgeries per day, with six in the morning and six in the afternoon. Doctors are encouraged to assist each other chair-side where knowledge is gained watching and assisting.
On Friday, we review and discuss the surgeries from the previous day. Clinicians are always enthusiastic and excited about seeing themselves and their peers successfully place implants. These surgeries offer valuable points for discussion and review, all performed in a residency seminar-type format. Other lectures on Friday focus on restorative aspects of implant dentistry.
Saturday is another surgical day. Course participants can expect to do one or two surgeries, and to assist on another one or two surgeries. The scope of practice for these sessions is placing implants in abundant bone. An example case would be placing 2 implants in the edentulous mandible for an overdenture, or placing an implant in site #19 for an implant-supported crown. Some implants are placed immediately after extracting the tooth.
